About Lizbeth ‘Libby’ Benson

Lizbeth ‘Libby’ Benson is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research and a faculty member at the d3center. Her research focuses on intensive longitudinal data, computational modeling, and machine learning methods to study the temporal dynamics of affective, social, and health behavior processes. She uses ecological momentary assessment and sensor-based data to understand how behavior unfolds across time and context, with the goal of designing personalized health interventions. Libby is also interested in using data visualization as a tool for scientific insight and communication. She is currently developing a reinforcement learning algorithm for personalizing intervention content in a smoking cessation just-in-time adaptive intervention.
