LowSalt4Life is a mobile app-based just-in-time adaptive intervention (JITAI) to address high dietary sodium intake in hypertension. The app provides push notifications to help with the food selection at grocery stores and restaurants. Within the study design, we have embedded a machine-learning algorithm to enhance patient engagement based on novel contextual information collected from the user’s phone. We will discuss the study design, algorithm details, and technical challenges in the implementation of this intervention.
