Question

When should I conduct a Pilot SMART?

Answer

A Pilot SMART is useful when you need to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of study procedures and/or the study procedures in preparation for a “full-scale” SMART. Recall that a full-scale SMART is used to answer scientific questions in order to develop an optimized adaptive intervention. In a Pilot SMART, the focus is on feasibility and acceptability considerations rather than hypothesis testing and effect sizes.
